Mosquito Emerger
While we as anglers may despite them, the 595 species of Mosquito inhabiting the waters of the US and Canada remain one of the trout's favorite foods. Unlike our black flies which cling to the surface of rocks, and chironomids that burrow into the muddy bottoms of lakes and rivers, the larva and pupa of Mosquitoes spend their young lives breathing through a short siphon at the surface of the water. This makes them very susceptible to feeding trout, and makes the Mosquito Emerger pattern a go-to fly for anglers across the country!
