IS IT TRUE THAT YOU HAVE A WORKSHOP OF QUICK-FINGERED GNOMES TYING YOUR FLIES?

gnome-fly-tyers.jpg

While our flies are not tied by gnomes, they are made by a team of dedicated tiers that are masters of the craft.  All flies are hand tied using industry-best hooks, fur, and feathers, and must meet the approval of our OCD staff before shipping out to your water.

HOW CAN ASCENT FLY FISHING OFFER SUCH SMOKING DEALS ON FLIES AND GEAR?! WHAT'S THE HITCH?

We started tying flies as kids, and it felt like our allowance each week would inevitably go towards flies, floatant, and indicators.  Those few dollars never went very far, and at that young age we were determined that fly fishing should not be reserved for the rich but accessible and available to all.

While we don't begrudge big brands and retailers, our goal is to make not only the science of fly fishing accessible, but also the cost.

To do this, we have created relationships with factories, tiers, and like-minded fly fishing geeks who share our passion for Innovative, Premium Quality, and Affordable fly fishing gear.  Where we can, we take out the middle men and pass along the savings as we endeavor to bring you a product that stand up on the water while not breaking the bank.

WHY DOESN'T ASCENT FLY FISHING CARRY THE (INSERT YOUR PATTERN HERE)?!  THIS FLY KILLS IT ON MY LOCAL RIVER!

We are sure that the Purple Bugaboo or some locally tied equivalent is indeed very effective on your home waters.  The reality is that there are more than 100,000 fly patterns out there and an endless number of variations that could be tied for each.

One of the goals at Ascent Fly Fishing is to reduce the confusion created by an endless number of flies and to increase our clients' success on the water by staying true to those that best match the hatch and are proven producers.

We are, however, open to adding new patterns and our catalog of flies is always growing and adapting.  If you have a killer pattern that you think we should carry that fills a hole in the hatch, please CLICK HERE to share a photo and recipe.

WHY DO YOU PACK DIFFERENT SIZES OF THE SAME PATTERN IN SOME OF YOUR SELECTIONS?

how-to-choose-the-best-size-flies.jpg

When packing selections for our clients, we try to anticipate and account for a number of different environmental and biological factors that will influence which size fly will be most effective when  and where you are fishing.  Even when trying to match a specific species and life stage, there can be significant variation in size and maturity based on water temperature, food, water chemistry, elevation, and habitat.  Invertebrates are hardwired to pass on their DNA to the next generation and to do this, the hatch of a specific family or species will be staggered over a matter of weeks or months, meaning that multiple sizes of fly can be used at any given time to imitate that bug.

We also try to account for changing conditions on and in the water.  Whether your waters are clouded by runoff or are darkened by clouds, having a variety of sizes of your go-to patterns stocked in your box will ensure that you can adjust your weight, profile, and rig to experience greater success during any condition.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET MY FLIES AND GEAR AFTER I ORDER THEM?

We like to think that we are offering our customers a premium service.  If you are ordering a custom fly selection, we are going to dig into our database and take into account your goals, focus, stream flows, temperature, snowpack, and the season before we start packing flies.  Even with all of the brain flexing, we should have your flies packed up and in the mail within a couple days  If you are purchasing some of our pre-packed selections or gear, we can typically get those wrapped up and out in short order.  We also offer a number of different shipping options so that we can get you your flies before you hit the water next.
