While not as numerous as midges or as large as stoneflies, mayflies are without question one of the most important food sources for trout in most streams and rivers. With 17 families and 611 species of mayflies found in North America, the goal of this selection is to equip you with a go-to selection of fly patterns that can be used to match more mayfly species with fewer flies. Close in size and color to a number of species, these Generalist Mayfly patterns can be effectively fished on both lakes and rivers and help to simplify your box to a select few productive mayfly patterns.
Our Go-To Dry Mayfly Selections have been crafted to allow the angler to fish the dun and spinner life stages of a greater number of mayfly species with fewer flies. The quantity of flies dedicated to each pattern and size is based on the species each pattern seeks to imitate as well as their importance to the feeding trout and fly angler.
The Small Selection includes 15 go-to mayflies spanning several sizes in each pattern.
The Medium Selection expands upon the sizes and includes 30 go-to mayflies patterns.
The Large Selection seeks to exhaustively cover the breadth of North American mayflies with 45 go-to flies, with repetition on the most productive sizes.
